In 2007, following a suggestion from then Deputy County Clerk of Erie County Kathy Hochul a group of men and women undertook the process of creating a weather related destination venue in western New York.

Initially, a Not-For-Profit 501 (C) (3) organization was established called the “Committee for the Buffalo Weather Experience Center.” During an 11 year period of time, $150,000 of private support was raised to fund a 2 phase Feasibility Study.

In the fall of 2017 and into the spring of 2018, ConsultEcon, Inc. completed Phase 1 Site Location and recommended that a “World Weather Center” be located in Niagara Falls, New York, specifically at the current One Niagara building, as a preferred location. Phase 2 of the Feasibility Study demonstrated under specific conditions the WWC had an excellent future for success. Critical to the success of the Project is that the experiential destination would be of the highest quality, located in the One Niagara building, and be educational, scientific, immersive, exciting, and fun for guests of all ages.

In the fall of 2018, the name was officially changed to the World Weather Center, Inc. with a Board of Directors:

Sergio Fornasiero President
Don Paul Vice President
Craig Moore Secretary
Justin Reid Treasurer
David Norton Director
Paul Maurer Director

July of 2018, the World Weather Center hired John R. Simon to develop the concept of the World Weather Center, gain support from the public and private sectors, develop the business plan, assist with the capitalization, and move the project forward.
